Where is your camp located?
Our base camps are located in the Washakie Wilderness Area of the
Absaroka Mountain Range in the Shoshone National Forest.
Our trailhead located on the Greybull River is 28 miles west of Meeteetse
Wyoming. The ride from the trailhead to base
camp is 3-4 hours.
What is your success rate?
The success rate has been 75% - 90%, with 100% opportunity.
What are camp facilities like?
We provide large cook and dining wall tents. Our sleeping tents are
wall tents with propane heaters, cots, and foam pads.
Full meals are provided, family style.
Please refer to the
Items
to Bring page on this website.
What caliber of rifle should I use?
We recommend 270 Win or larger. As always it is
about bullet placement - time spent at the range always pays off. We
recommend bolt action rifles, and discourage autos and pumps.
What type of hunting do we provide?
We ride and use the horses each morning to gain elevation and glass
for game. The country is open, sage brush
country. Because of the open country, long
shots are not uncommon.
How do I apply for a Wyoming License?
The application period for a Wyoming Elk License is January 1 though
January 31. The results of the draw are
available by February 28th. If
you wish to book a hunt, I can complete the license application for you and will hand
deliver the applications to Wyoming Game and Fish in Cheyenne on January 31st. A
Booking
Agreement is available for your convenience on this web site, or I can send one
to you. The Booking Agreement is all that I need to complete your license application.
What is the cost of your guided hunts?
The cost of a hunt will vary by species. We require a 25% deposit at the time of booking. If you are unsuccessful in the draw, we will
return your deposit. Please refer to the
Price List and
Booking
Agreement provided on this web site.
What should I tip my guide, cook or other
camp help?
Tips or Gratuities are not included in the price of the pack trip
or hunt. All of our guides, cooks and wranglers work hard to assist
our hunters and clients where ever possible and appreciate all
gratuities. Traditional tipping today is based on 10%-20% of
trip costs. Each hunter/client should tip based on his/her
satisfaction of their wilderness/hunt experience.
Can I bring alcohol?
Although heavy drinking does not occur at our camps, you can
bring beverage of choice, and have a toddy at night while enjoying the
camp atmosphere.
What is the nearest airport?
Flights are available into Cody Wyoming. We will provide transportation to and from the
airport.
What is the difference between a regular elk license and a
special elk license?
Forty percent of the available non-resident elk licenses are set
aside for the special license pool.
The
higher priced license has traditionally increased the odds of drawing an elk license.
